Cooking 2005-02-15 - 11:21 p.m. Did some cooking Saturday night: a mushroom risotto and a seafood paella. It all turned out marvellously, if I do say so myself. Rave reviews. Although I must confess it feels like I cheated. It was all done in a rice cooker (at different times, of course) and apart from adding ingredients and doing some stirring here and there, the machine does it all. I just think if you don't use a shitload of pots and pans and make a mess, if you don't control the temperature and cooking times, it's not really genuine. I felt much better the weekend before when I actually did some proper cooking - three fillets of kangaroo, each one done differently and served with pan-fried vegetables. (Although the people I cooked for didn't find it amusing when I opened the fridge door and said 'What's that Skip?* The bad men fell down the well and you've been killed and now you're going to be cooked and eaten?' *Skip, short for Skippy, was a tv show when I was a child. Skippy was a kangaroo who could not only be understood by his 'friend', a young boy named Sonny, but who constantly saved the day by thwarting criminals who all seemed to end up in the same national park where Skippy lived.
