When is a lay not a lay?

Watching one of those reality tv shows tonight, well, it was on in the background as I was reading, when I heard something I really thought wouldn't be on national tv.
It was one of those shows where there's some cooking, handyman type things, gardening and all the rest. It was in one of the gardening segments and the guy had bought a shrub at a nursery and was about to load it in the car. He said that you should be careful as the shrub doesn't like to be lied down. Yes.*
And I bet the shrub doesn't like to be laid to.
*He actually said something similar last week but I was in shock so just assumed I'd misheard.
