One of the saddest things I've seen in a long time...
I was approaching and then stationary at a major intersection, where I saw a lady in her 60s (although it was a little difficult to tell as she was very unkempt). She was wearing a circa 1972 housedress with cardigan and old sandals on her feet. I was in the right turn lane (in US and Europe picture the left turn lane), and she was walking along the median strip looking for and picking up discarded cigarette butts.
I can't help but feel that something's wrong with society when I see someone so desperate.
(And don't give me any bullshit that "people like her" put themselves in that position. Nor do I want to hear that line, "God helps those who help themselves" or whatever it is.)
