the class gap just got bigger

2005-11-19 - 11:21 p.m.

Been meaning to write about the federal government's new workplace 'reforms'/rip-offs whereby they spend a fucking fortune on ads in press and on tv and radio lying to the country's workers to help their employer mates; the government use scare tactics but hopefully the workers will win this one. If they don't then this country will be well on it's way to being fucked for good.

(I wonder if the government and employers actually realise the fundamental premise that if the workers don't have any money to spend, if they're struggling to pay mortgages, put their kids through school, pay the ever-increasing ridiculous insurance premiums, pay the ever-increasing amounts for food, buy petrol for the car so they can get to work, etc., then there'll be fuck-all business for anyone. I mean, it's basic, isn't it? No money, no spending. It eventually will reach every business.)

I was going to write about it in more depth but it just makes me mad. And don't get me started on this government's insistence on casualisation of the workforce. Oh okay, I'm already started. About 30% are now casuals, which is great for employers as the hourly rate of pay is ever decreasing. Problem is, if a couple are casual they can't get a home loan as the bank won't allow it. Which will, of course, eventually lead (well it has already) to people not affording a home and having to pay high rent to landlords who are the only people with money enough to afford homes, who'll be negative-gearing the properties and big loans all thanks to this government's tax breaks for people who buy investment properties. Sure anyone can buy an investment property but the higher your salary the more negative-gearing helps you. Oh, and you have to have a secure job, being a casual worker will not do you any good. Same as with salary-sacrifice. Not sure if the government has yet worked out that the property boom of a couple of years ago was predominantly caused by investors panic buying before real estate got too expensive to buy. Of course, in most capital cities real estate is prohibitively expensive.

This government really is a pack of moronic cunts.
