While looking at the latest KMArt catalogue yesterday I was a tad miffed to see that PIrates Of The CAribbean has an absolute shitload of merchandise accompanying the second movie. (Which, by the way, isn't released in this country for another month.) I did think that after the success of the first one (one of my favourite movies in recent years - not that I watch a lot of movies anymore) DIsney would do the usual. And when I heard that they were filming two movies one straight after the other, I just knew it was going to turn into the huge franchise that these movies have become.

I do find it aggravating that just about every Hollywood movie has all this merchandising shit to go with the movie.

I guess that it keeps the ChInese in jobs as virtually all of the merchandise items accompanying the movie release are made there.

And I guess it keeps those at Disney in a job, what with all the extra money coming in. And yes, I guess the profits from the movie and the shit, um merchandise, are put back into more movies, which employs people. Oh, but then they'll make more movies that have book and merchandise tie-ins.

Call me a prick but I do like when a very much advertised movie, that has huge merchandising, tanks at the box office.

But then I feel bad because of all the waste.

(Yes, I do realise I used the words merchandise and merchandising far too much. Don't you hate reading someone whose vocabulary is so limited they can't think of another word to use?)
