Stick that job up your arse 2006-06-20 - 12:01 a.m. After failing to gain an interview for yet another job, I was going to go on a huge rant against those employers who judge a person purely on their CV, not on their personality, intelligence, common sense and their ability to learn new skills. I guess employers don't want to, what they perceive, waste time and money training someone. Although, from my experience, they still have to carry out some training no matter who they employ. (And most times, if an employer gives a person without the exact skills a go, takes a bit of a chance on them, that person will repay the employer many times over.) And, there's actually something worse than the aforementioned employer. That's the employer who pays and agency to employ, or at least carry out initial interviews, on their behalf. It has always, to me anyway, defied all common sense to pay an outside person to interview people for your business. Where's the intelligence in that? And what gets me with these agencies is one person calls you for a phone interview, then says you've got through to the next stage only for you not to hear anything further. Apparently the person that you spoke to on the phone passes your file on to the person who carries out the next lot of interviews and it's up to them to decide. Um, so they apparently decide on your CV, and it has nothing really to do with how you went in the phone interview. So what's the point of the initial interview then? Someone has to explain that to me. Sour grapes? Not really. I just hate being fucked around, I hate being lied to, I hate having my time wasted, I hate having my hopes raised for no reason, and I hate all the politics and bullshit before you even get a job. Makes you want to buy a business for yourself so you can then treat prospective employees like shit and make them feel even more inadequate than they already do. But we wouldn't do that - we remember how it feels.
