Boo hoo 2006-07-05 - 2:49 p.m. If I was one who believed in karma, and I'm now starting to, I'm obviously being paid back for something, or a few things, I've done wrong in this life and those previously. The fact of trying to relocate, after you've bought a place, is probably not the wisest decision I've ever made. (And especially when you have no formal qualifications. What the hell was I thinking?) The thing is, there were jobs near where I want to relocate to but I couldn't apply as I was marking time at my current job. The reason? So I can get a pay out for long service leave as I had less than a year to go. Then, the state government a few months later, passed a law that if long service leave would have to be paid out even if the employee left before the required 10 years. Which is great, don't get me wrong. But, and it's a big er...but, I can't get a straight answer out of anyone as to who exactly is entitled to it. It depends on the award you work under. And, if like me and countless others, you don't come under an award, then what? The state government's department that handles this can't answer the question. Well they can but it's not legally binding. So if I do leave my job and my employer refuses to pay it, I can't go back to the government to complain or use their advice in any legal action against my employer, if I so decide to take that action. Which is all rather wonderful. And so then when I could start looking for other work where I want to move to, there was bugger all jobs around. And the jobs now being offered are either casual or part time. And now the federal government has a huge ad campaign going encouraging employers (which of course the employers love) to hire, in part time or casual employment, people coming back into the workforce from injury, redundancy, or people being forced off financial aid by the government. Which of course leaves people like me looking for full- time work being passed over for casual employees as the employers don't have to pay them entitlements like holiday and sick pay etc. And then you know you've really done something bad when the banks, especially the one who you have a home loan with and would've given you a shitload more money six months ago, and would willingly give it to you now for a house, refuse your request for a loan for a business, a reputable and safe one, even when you're willing to put your last dollar up. Yeah, I know, whinge whine complain. Still, if they're willing to risk that sort of money on a house, why not a freehold business? Not sure how long I can stay at where I'm working now. And I'm not sure how long I can handle the expense of living at two places.
